Matt Velinder, PhD

Summary

I am a passionate scientist seeking to use my biological knowledge and technical skills to improve both patients’ outcomes and quality of life. I believe the awesome power of genomic sequencing will only be fully realized when complex sequencing data is synthesized into clinically actionable information. I continue to be motivated and inspired by my work in both basic and clinical research settings. I apply a diverse skill set and background to my research, including a broad knowledge of molecular biology, protein biochemistry, genetics, bioinformatics and programming. I have been the lead bioinformatician on numerous large consortium scale projects as well as single family studies of rare and undiagnosed diseases. I am a creative problem solver, eager to learn new methods, techniques and skills. I make a point of reading outside my field and have a love for communicating science to both fellow scientists and lay audiences. Outside of the lab I enjoy biking, gardening, a wide range of music, cooking, and outdoor adventures of all kinds.
